Christian Ethos Statement

At Heritage the broad concepts underpinning our approach to education derive from the Christian faith. We also consider it important for a child's healthy development that he or she be exposed to a system of values and beliefs, genuinely embraced by his or her teachers, capable of providing moral direction and inspiration for life.

Christian teaching finds particular expression through assemblies (or 'collective worship') and the emphasis placed in our curriculum upon knowing the Bible as literature. In later years more detailed analysis of other religions and philosophies will include a Christian perspective.

Because of our respect for each child as an independent person who must form his or her own conclusions about religious matters, we welcome open dialogue about values and beliefs in the classroom. At Heritage 'pupils learn about the major world religions in a respectful way, which prepares them well for life in a multicultural society.' (Ofsted, Sept. 2008) No child is asked to participate in religious activities aside from corporate prayers and singing.

Heritage welcomes children from all backgrounds. It is entirely contrary to the Christian ethos of the school to discriminate against prospective pupils on any grounds whatsoever.

Parents who enrol their children at Heritage understand and agree to be supportive of its Christian ethos as here defined.
